Welcome to the heart of the jungle! You have arrived safely at the lush and humid website of Bonnie Jo Campbell, a girl raised by wolves, then kidnapped by a band of lowland gorillas.
More recently American Salvage, her second short story collection, has been released by Wayne State University Press and is a finalist for the National Book Award. For schedule information, click here. Also in 2009: Kim Addonizio has just chosen Bonnie’s poetry manuscript, Love Letters from Sons of Bitches, as the winner of the Center for Book Arts Chapbook award. A very limited run of the chapbook will be published in the fall. Her novel Q Road is now in paperback, as is her award-winning short story collection Women and Other Animals, both of which have been translated into German by Schneekluth.
Please feel free to snack on bugs, grubs, and tree bark as you follow her
trail, and for crying out loud watch out for those pesky flying monkeys.
When she puts down her machete and blow gun, Bonnie Jo edits a personal
newsletter and works on her future novels.
She co-edited a collection Our Working Lives: Short
Stories of People and Work. You can see some descriptions and reviews of
her books, and maybe even some samples of her writing on this site.
Keep trekking and you'll encounter Bonnie Jo herself perched on a rock bragging
shamelessly about her personal attributes and accomplishments and also
offering some of her favorite photos. For a schedule of upcoming readings,
workshops and ritual sacrifices, please contact Bonnie Jo via e-mail or visit her blog at http://bone-eye.blogspot.com/ and her Screen
Porch Literary Adventures Blog at http://screenporchlit.blogspot.com/. You can also find her and her fan page on Facebook.
